UPDATE Nov 28, 2011 - er...I'm not sure where the idea that saints grant wishes like genies came in, but they do not. ST EXPEDITE (and other saints) ARE NOT WISH GRANTING GENIES. Please keep your requests to St Expedite and other saints within your sphere of availability. For example, if you do not even have a high school education, you're not apt to get a doctor job by petitioning a saint. Or...if you've never met a famous actor and have no likely way of meaning him, don't ask for that person to become your lover because I'm 99.9% sure it's outside of your sphere of availability. Keep all saint requests and spell purposes within the realistic realm of what you could accomplish, and you likely will not be disappointed. Ask for grandiose requests like large sums of money (more than what you need to pay your bills, and far more than you'd earn in a year for example,) famous people to love you, jobs you're not qualified for, or etc, and you are likely to come up with no result. It's not because the saint won't help you, it's because you're being absurd and the powers that be are not like to totally rearrange time and space for you lighting a candle once just because you want someone or something to give you something which far outreaches what would be available to you. Requests like $1000 to pay your bills, for the job you applied for to come to you, or etc are more realistic and things you would be more like to get. I've said that in this blog more than once but recently have been overwhelmed by people who seem to not understand this concept. I truly believe nothing is impossible, but that doesn't mean certain things are not so improbable that they may as well be considered impossible.
Hello Occulties,
This article comes after several requests that I post my favorite prayer to St Expedite (given below,) and how to work with him. This post is also here to recognize the YEARS of help and the many granted requests that St Expedite has helped me with. He's definitely one of my favorite saints. :D
Before I totally get into that, I want to let everyone know something: saints will work with you regardless of your religion. While there are some exceptions to consider when working with particular saints (for example, St Rita does not like men, and she and St Martha generally are petitioned by women; Santisma Muerte - who is not a traditional Catholic saint or condoned by the Catholic church - hates adulterers and also usually is only worked with by women, or Saints Jude and Expedite like to have their name published, etc,) 99 times out of 100, any saint will work with anybody. ;) Another thing to keep in mind? I'm not your saint dictionary, so please do not attempt to ask me 1,236,785,923,478 questions about what saint does what and what do you need to do for an offering and and etc, etc, etc, etc. There are some great sites which offer this information, but today, we are discussing St Expedite, and he can be more complicated to work with than most saints are.
Some background on the saint... So I am told, St Expedite was a Roman soldier back in the days of the Christian persecution. During his service, he witnessed the martyrdom of several Christians at the hands of their persecutors, and was so taken by their humility, faith, and their requests that their persecutors be forgiven even as their persecutors tortured and killed them, than he chose to convert to Christianity - a choice that caused him to be imprisioned and ultimately killed for his beliefs. He is generally depicted as a Roman soldier stepping on a raven who is saying "Cras" (tomorrow) while holding a cross that says "Hodie" (today.) I am told this comes from before St Expedite was martyred, Satan came to him in the form of a raven saying "Convert tomorrow, convert tomorrow," and St Expedite refused, insisting he be baptized a Christian that day. The day after, he was martyred for his Christian faith. Whether or not this is true, I don't know. Very little is known about him, but what is known is that SAINT EXPEDITE GETS THE WORK DONE FAST!
What to ask St Expedite for? This is not the saint to ask to harm your enemies. While some of you are probably slapping yourselves on the head saying "Cat, I don't know how stupid you must think I am - asking a SAINT to harm someone?" But yes, in certain cases with certain saints, you can ask for at least your enemy to be put in a place...that isn't pleasant. Just not with Expedite. Expedite is best in cases where you need help in a hurry, especially in money situations.
Some people say "What about love?" and to this I say...it wouldn't be my first choice, even though it can work and has worked for many people on many occaisions (this guy is miraculous, and there is a reason I have a giant St Expedite statue at my house!!) Still, just because you want to have your love situation taken care of overnight, keep in mind that quick solutions in the emotional world are generally not always super-lasting. St Expedite WILL come through for you, but as many of my Hoodoo For Everyone board has discovered, as I had said right here, when it comes to love, often the quickest answer is not the most lasting solution. Still you're going to do what you want to do, so...
Be warned, though, if you petition St Expedite you WILL have to pay him for his services. "Payment" as I have heard of it has consisted of poundcake, flowers, an ad in the local paper - one or all three.
To petition St Expedite, you can simply recite the prayer given below daily until your requests are met, and when they are, publish your thanks to St Expedite in the local newspaper and/or offer him a slice of poundcake in thanks for answering your request. Some people offer him flowers. I personally prefer offering poundcake, but know others who only offer flowers. I leave this up to you.
Many Hoodoo people offer St Expedite a Red or a Yellow (even golden orange/marigold) light when they begin their petition as well as a glass of water when offering their prayers. Often St Expedite is petitioned on a Wednesday. To do this, you simply take a statue or image of St Expedite, place beside this a candle of the appropriate color, and a tumbler glass of water. Light the candle before you begin your prayer, then when you have finished your prayer, allow the candle to burn out.
Here is the prayer I most commonly use:
Saint Expedite, you lay in rest.
I come to you and ask that
this wish be granted.
(State your request)
Expedite now what I ask of you.
Expedite now what I want of you,
this very second.
Don't waste another day.
Give me what I ask for.
I know your power,
I know you because of your work.
I know you can do it.
Do this for me and I'll
spread your name with love and honor
and cause your name to be invoked.
Expedite this wish with speed, love,
honor, and goodness.
Glory to you, Saint Expedite!
To "pay" the saint, leave your offering in front of his picture for a day or so after he has accomplished the task you requested of him. Pay him IMMEDIATELY upon him granting your request - and this includes if you want to leave an ad in the paper thanking him. St Expedite WILL take everything he gave you back from you if you do not pay him immediately, and, just as with ANY saint, you must pay him what you promised.
A WONDERFUL resource on St Expedite can be found here: http://www.saintexpedite.org
Alrightey, well, there will be questions, so please contact me if you have them.
And of course, my deepest gratitude to you, St Expedite, for all the help you have given me for my requests! May your name and fame grow!

PS- To all the people always asking me "Tell us about saints!" I started a whole new catagory just for you! ;) For all the people always telling me "Stop with the Christian/Catholic stuff - it offends my religious beliefs or lack thereof!" I simply invite you to read the article I wrote yesterday over again, and tell you to get over yourself for just a little while. ;)
As of March 25, 2013 (or actually as of always, I just let several of you break the rules,): If you post your thanks or prayers for St Expedite in all capitals in the comments section, it won't be posted. That is very very very poor nettiquette. Sorry for having to add this, apparently a few people were too busy to read the comment submission guidelines. ;)
Saints are something that have interested me for a while, thank you for posting this! Good jumping off point!

Thank you very very much for your writings. I am just starting my personal voyage into the incredible world of Hoodoo, root-working, conjuring, etc. A few days ago I had a sudden notion to find a Saint that could help in matters of urgency. I double-checked with a divination and St.Expedite was my call. I have found information about him from numerous sites but I must commend you on the way your writing has given me 'clarity' in what I have to do. (I shall of course cleanse my candles and then 'dress' them. I am also thinking about writing my name and the purpose of my petition on the candle.)
Blessings to you Cat!

I have a question if you don't mind... if you use a seven-day glass jar candle, what should you do if it has burned out before the request is granted?
Posted by: gsk | August 09, 2010 at 04:51 AM
There are 2 schools of thought. One says start another immediately off of the flame of the dying candle - if its a matter of lighting one taper of the same color and dressed similarly that can do, but generally those of that school of thought would recommend using another seven day jar candle (or a least those I know of that school of thought would.)
The other school of thought on the matter is that if the candle burned quickly, it simply means a fast result, and that no other candle need be lit.
However, the summer months do make those jar candles burn faster, so the case may just be that the jar candle's wax was softened by the hotter weather.
If you promised a LIGHT to St Expedite, he will likely be happy with what he was given. If you promised him seven days of prayer, then I guess...pay up! ;)
Posted by: Cat | August 11, 2010 at 12:26 PM
Ah, to add, if the candle burns out before the request is granted (I misunderstood - sorry,) then just wait for the request to be granted and give St E his rewards when he has granted your request. ;)
Sorry about the mislaid tangent above. ;)

I just started with my petition to St. Expedite last Wednesday after learning the basics of how to proceed from this website and from the other sites that I have visited. On my fourth day of praying to St. Expedite, strong positive response was already manifested. The company whom I applied for a job months ago had emailed me with a positive note after I made a follow up and asking St. Expedite to intercede and find a way to get this person gave me a positive feedback. Less than an hour later, he emailed back and had given me strong indications of working with their company very soon. Well...I have not yet gotten the final confirmation of the employment but I considered it done as am certain that St. Expedite will continue to work on my petition until I finally get the confirmation. Because of this, I immediately provide the offerings that I promised to him this morning, some fresh yellow flowers and 5 slices of pound cake. and now, I'm spreading his name and his goodness through every site that features him and his works. I'm sharing this story to tell everyone that St. Expedite really works and really works fast!
Thank u so much St. Expedite!

Shoulder wound of Jesus . . .
Oh loving Jesus, meek Lamb of God, I, a miserable sinner, salute and worship the most sacred wound of Thy shoulder, on which Thou did bear Thy heavy cross, which tore Thy flesh and lay Thy bones as to inflict an anguish greater than any other wound of Thy most blessed body.
I adore Thee, oh Jesus most sorrowful. I praise and glorify Thee, and give thanks fully to Thee for the most holy and sacred and painful wound. Beseeching Thee by that exceeding pain, and by the crushing burden of Thy heavy cross to be
merciful to me on towards heaven along the way of Thy cross. In Jesus' name (make request) Amen to all.
**This powerful prayer must be said for requests and most urgent help. After you have said it, ask for requests, then you must publish it right away
for requests to be granted.**
Thank you for hearing my prayers I have alot of faith that my prayer has already been answered. God Bless. Amen.

Cat,
Mine is a question/confirmation. I started with the recommended red candle(individual one) this burned very quickly and I no longer had any reds. I have dressed a white pillar candle in place of the red, I guess this is ok?.
Thanks.

Saint Expedite I would like to thank you. There were some lean, tight financial times recently. You came through with around $2000 to help me pay my bills. Thank you for your blessings. Your timeliness was right on time. Thank you for looking out for this humble woman.

Hi Jojo,
I've never personally used a white candle for St Expedite but it PROBABLY does not matter. He can be very picky about getting his "gift" at the end, but I believe a white instead of a red light will be fine :)

Thank you for this wonderful post Cat. I was wondering would it be beneficial to pray the Saint Expedite Prayer several times per day, or would once per day be fine? Also, should the candle be lit continuously? Thank you so much for your time.
Posted by: Tay | January 03, 2013 at 03:38 PM
Once a day should be fine, for how many days the prayer is specified to be said (example, a Novena is generally said 9 days.) I know tons of St Expedite prayers so I wasn't clear which you were referring to, and in re. to the article, it's pretty old so I can't recall of the top of my head which I'd offered to the public.
You can use a continuously burning light like a seven day candle, burn a small light each day (like offeratory size candle,) or burn a part of a taper candle every day for a certain amount of days. One is not necessarily better than the other. I think I did go over this in one of my other Saints posts, but if not, I apologize.
